If a garage floor or entrance receives sunlight, explain this at the start. “Strong epoxy” alone does not establish suitability for UV exposure, heat or water. Start with actual conditions and the complete system's technical information.
Define the exposure
- Is sunlight direct or entering through a door or glazing?
- Which area is affected and when?
- Are there washing water, rain or vehicles?
- Is the space indoors, an open entrance or outdoors?
Send photographs and identify the area within the quotation. Describing the climate as hot does not replace the product's installation and service requirements.
Request system-specific UV data
Do not assume all epoxies tolerate sunlight or that every system containing epoxy is unsuitable. Sika describes MultiDur EB-16 UV (G) with UV-resistant properties and uses including exposed parking areas, using a specified layer arrangement. That example applies to the named complete system, not any similarly named material.
Colour change and system suitability are different
Sika's information on next-generation epoxies discusses reduced yellowing in particular formulations. Reduced colour change is not a promise of absolute colour stability or approval for every outdoor use. Ask about the colour, finish coat and expected limits in your conditions.
What should the quotation include?
Request each layer's name and compatibility, approved use, sunlight and water limits, substrate requirements, joints, slip characteristics and maintenance. Any extra protective layer needs approval with the rest of the system; adding one does not automatically resolve every problem.
Use a sample for appearance
Review colour, texture and sheen under similar lighting, but do not treat a visual sample as proof of UV resistance. Technical data and the written scope complete the decision. The referenced brands are examples, not a statement that they are used in every Almusaileem project.
