Microcement Tables and Worktops: Edges, Heat and Food Contact | Almusaileem

الكاتب:

Microcement can finish tables and worktops when the base and complete system are suitable for that use. Assess stability, edges, heat and whether the surface is for display, serving or direct food preparation before choosing a colour.

Define the function

A side table differs from a daily preparation worktop or a counter with a sink and heat-producing appliance. List loads, movement and user access. Ideal Work describes Microtopping on furniture and counters with use limits; Festfloor offers a furniture/worktop kit including protection. These illustrate purpose-specific systems, not approval of every material on every table.

Inspect the structure

Provide base material, dimensions, joints and fixing. Check wobble, bending and old swelling before cladding. A decorative finish cannot repair a structural defect. Board movement, expansion or damp storage may require treatment or exclusion; coordinate carpenter and finish installer where needed.

Edges and openings

Approve a sketch or small model showing corners, visible underside and base joints. Confirm feasibility of thin edges or long projections. For sink and tap openings, assign cutting, fixture installation and junction treatment using approved materials. For movable tables, agree handling points and edge protection during transport.

Hot cookware and appliances

Ideal Work recommends insulating trivets rather than placing hot pans directly on Microtopping. A general heat-resistance description does not permit oven-hot cookware on every microcement worktop. Disclose air fryers, coffee machines and similar equipment; check appliance and system instructions, clearances and suitable bases. If direct hot-pan placement is essential, discuss another documented suitable surface or dedicated section.

Direct food contact is a separate requirement

“Suitable for kitchens” does not prove direct food-preparation suitability. For example, 5 Star Finishes states that the protective coatings described on its microcement page are not approved for direct food contact and recommends barriers such as chopping boards. Obtain explicit documentation for the final complete system and coating if direct food contact is required, including product identity, conditions and full curing.

Food-contact confirmation does not separately establish cutting or heat resistance. Use suitable preparation boards and trivets. Without clear evidence for the intended use, select a preparation surface approved for that purpose and use microcement on appropriate decorative parts.

What to send

Send full, edge, underside and joint photos; length, width, visible thickness and base material; function, appliances and direct-food-contact requirements; openings and whether fixed or movable. Broader kitchen walls and floors need their own scope. Manufacturer examples do not automatically specify products for your project.
