Microcement floors can become slippery, especially with water or soap residue. Suitability depends on the final finish system, evidence from relevant test conditions and cleaning, rather than a photograph or the material name. Before choosing a bathroom colour, ask how the surface performs when wet.
Appearance is not a slip-resistance test
Similar grey floors may have different products, textures and protective coatings. Low sheen or touching a dry sample does not prove slip resistance. Identify the actual finish underfoot. HSE guidance explains that a test needs its method and conditions to be understood; it is a technical reference, not a claim that a particular British standard is mandatory for every Kuwaiti home.
Define the use area
Describe wet exposure, barefoot or shod use, soap or oil, slopes and steps. Showers differ from adjacent bathroom floors, corridors and commercial entrances. Slip assessment does not establish waterproofing or plumbing integrity; these require separate checks.
What should a report show?
- The tested product, protective coating and finish, matching the proposed system.
- Test method, report date and issuing organisation.
- Dry or wet conditions and the liquid used.
- Relevance to barefoot or footwear use in the intended area.
- Any differences between the sample and proposed installation.
Do not compare classifications from different methods as though they were the same number, or turn a laboratory result into a promise that slipping is impossible. Where field assessment is needed, use a qualified person; do not attempt your own slipping test on a wet floor.
The protective coating matters
Confirm the exact coating and its intended use. Topciment lists Topsealer WT Anti Slip in its technical library as an example of product differences. This does not mean every sealer performs identically or that this product is automatically specified for your project. Approve a sample including the proposed final layers, texture, colour and care requirements. Review suitability if the coating changes.
Cleaning and continued use
HSE cleaning guidance includes prompt spill removal, suitable cleaner and dosage, and keeping people away until a wet area dries. Take system-specific care instructions and do not add wax or polish independently. If grip changes, record whether it occurs after cleaning, when wet or in one area and contact the installer before sanding or chemical treatment.
Record three decisions
Write down the intended use area, the final finish system and the evidence supporting suitability. Explain wet areas and actual bathroom use to Almusaileem before approving the colour.
