The sealer is the final protective layer in many microcement systems. Choose it for compatibility with the complete assembly and intended use. Matt, satin and gloss describe appearance, rather than protection level. Existing surfaces need product identification and investigation of any change before recoating.
Its role and limits
Review the base, preparation, finish and protective products together. Topsealer All in One is described as a water-based polyurethane protection with defined uses and limits; its sheet distinguishes occasional water contact from permanent water exposure. “Sealer” does not prove waterproofing or solve standing water. Obtain the full product name and data sheet rather than “excellent protection.”
Even one manufacturer has compatibility limits
The cited All in One sheet primarily specifies Efectto Quartz and certain other uses, while excluding the named Sttandard, Natture and Evoluttion systems. A shared brand or “for microcement” label is insufficient. Any substitution needs a reason and manufacturer-supported compatibility for the actual floor, wall or furniture use.
Choosing sheen
Rivedil lists matt, satin and gloss within SCUDO M and SCUDO M HYBRID options. Availability and properties differ by product. View actual proposed finishes in the room, especially side light and large windows. Matt can offer quieter reflections but does not prove slip resistance. Satin and gloss alter reflections; greater shine does not automatically mean stronger protection. Review recoating options before changing sheen later.
When renewal deserves assessment
Document changed wear areas, scratches or peeling and when they appeared. These are observations rather than diagnoses. Ask whether the issue is confined to protection or involves deeper layers or the base. Ideal Work describes refreshing its Microtopping with a new protective coat over time, illustrating one system’s maintenance route. There is no universal renewal interval or automatic need to replace the finish after a set period.
Before approving resealing
- Identify old and proposed products, or an investigation method if records are missing.
- Assess compatibility and surface condition before defining treatment.
- Agree local versus full-area treatment and review sheen differences at boundaries.
- Obtain written return-to-use conditions for materials and site circumstances.
- Keep before photos and the actual applied product name.
Do not try an unknown clear sealer over the surface. The cited sheet discusses previous-coating condition and compatibility testing where appropriate; the specialist determines the procedure for your system.
