Microcement can be considered for a laundry room when the system suits floors and the expected wet conditions, with a stable substrate and clear drainage and waterproofing details. Review the washing machine, dryer, floor and maintenance access before choosing a colour.

Small laundry rooms beside kitchens or service areas can be sensitive to changes in floor level. Prepare a simple layout showing appliances, door movement and circulation before requesting a quotation.
Check the existing floor
Identify cracks, loose tiles and moisture. Find and treat the cause of a damp patch before covering it, then confirm substrate readiness using the method required by the selected system.
The linked Ideal Work Microtopping technical sheet describes preparation according to substrate type and condition, including cleanliness, cohesion, moisture requirements and respect for existing control joints. These are requirements for a particular system. Ask for the sheets of the actual products proposed for your room.
Agree drainage and waterproofing before colour
If there is a floor drain, agree its location, level and finish junction. Define who prepares the required falls, how they are checked and whether substrate changes are included. A thin finish alone should not be relied on to correct major depressions or unsuitable drainage.
Review floor-to-wall junctions, pipe penetrations and the doorway. Confirm the required waterproofing system, compatibility with the microcement layers and any tests before covering work. A drain or surface sealer alone does not establish watertightness.
Topciment describes sealers as part of the finish's chemical and mechanical protection. Record the specified sealer and confirm suitability for anticipated water exposure and cleaning products.
Appliance stability and maintenance access
Mark appliance feet and door-opening space, and review the layout with the appliance technician. LG's linked installation guidance discusses a firm, level base and checking vibration, connections and leaks. Follow the actual model manual for clearances.
- Coordinate a stable appliance standing area with drainage elsewhere.
- Keep access to valves, hoses and filters.
- Maintain the specified ventilation and service clearances.
- Check compatibility of any stands or protectors with the appliance and floor coating.
Do not improvise wood or rubber supports to address vibration. Have the technician identify the cause. Plan a future removal route that does not require dragging appliances over the finish.
Texture, colour and everyday use
Review a sample using the proposed system and sealer under the room's lighting. Compare the cabinets, worktop, texture and cleaning needs. A matt appearance alone does not demonstrate slip resistance. Ask for relevant performance information.
Plan detergent storage and compatible containment where needed to reduce spills and keep the floor accessible.
Before appliances return
- Obtain the permitted appliance-loading and water-use dates.
- Review edges, drains and joints.
- Agree protection and a lifting method for delivery.
- Have the technician level the appliances and check connections.
- Keep material data, cleaning instructions and photographs of concealed details.
Prepare an inspection request
Send overall photographs, floor and drain views, dimensions and appliance models. Mention past leaks and whether the scope includes walls as well as the floor. Include the room outage in the installation schedule, particularly if it is your only laundry room.
