Moisture readiness needs a test appropriate to the substrate and system, together with identification of any moisture source. A dry-looking floor or elapsed time since pouring is insufficient. Record testing and substrate acceptance before finishing.
Air humidity is not substrate moisture
Distinguish room humidity, remaining water in screed, an ongoing leak and moisture rising from below. Ask what was measured, where and how it supports the decision. Topciment requires moisture-source identification and treatment and notes the effect of temperature, humidity and ventilation on drying. Neither a fixed timetable nor air conditioning alone proves readiness.
Provide a brief floor history
Give pour/levelling dates, leaks, repairs, recurring symptoms, nearby planting or services and wetness after cleaning or rain. Supply construction and waterproofing photos where available, and describe retained finishes and replaced areas. These help plan testing without constituting a diagnosis.
Request a readable test report
Sika’s preparation guide describes methods including electronic assessment, in-situ concrete relative humidity and moisture-vapour emission testing. They measure different things; they are not automatic instructions for choosing your system’s test. Ask the installer to select the method from the actual technical requirements and record correct units. Relative humidity and water content by weight cannot be compared as identical percentages. Clarify screening results and any further test required.
- Substrate and tested layer.
- Method, equipment or testing organisation.
- Locations on photos or a plan and date.
- Readings, units and relevant site conditions.
- Acceptance limit in the system sheet and specialist readiness decision.
Covering does not remove the source
A new visible surface does not stop a pipe leak or prove moisture has ended. Assign source treatment and verification. If a sealer is proposed as the answer, request system acceptance of the existing base and readings. Ideal Work’s Microtopping sheet distinguishes preparation with and without rising moisture and specifies a barrier treatment in its system. Such treatment needs assessment and compatibility; its appearance in a quotation does not resolve an unknown source.
When to postpone
Keep finishing pending if the source is unknown, readings exceed acceptance or leak repair is incomplete. Link retesting to treatment and conditions, not a promised start date. Agree who pays for testing, treatment and waiting and who accepts the base. Send Almusaileem floor photos, area, recent pours or leak history and earlier reports. Product-specific limits do not apply automatically to every project.
