Outdoor microcement may suit courtyards and balconies when the complete system is approved for the use and the base, drainage and waterproofing are appropriate. A shaded wall, sun-exposed walking surface and balcony above a room require different assessment.
Describe actual exposure
Send full-area photos, entrances, drains and thresholds. Explain sun and shade, planters, washing, barbecue use, stairs, slopes and earlier leaks indoors or below. Do not automatically specify one finish for a seating courtyard, vehicle entrance and wall. Define permitted use and areas requiring another solution.
Evidence of outdoor suitability
Obtain the full system and technical information for preparation, finish and protection. Ideal Work lists outdoor Microtopping uses such as terraces and paths, demonstrating some systems’ suitability rather than approval of every microcement. Connect the specification in writing to substrate, traffic, water, sunlight and maintenance. Confirm compatibility of mixed-brand layers.
Sunlight and installation conditions
Ask about the final system’s UV performance and expected colour change. Ideal Work notes possible slight fading under continuous light despite UV-resistant pigments. Avoid unconditional promises of permanent day-one colour. View the protected sample in sun and shade and discuss daytime comfort and shading.
Topsealer 100 has a defined application-temperature range. Request a plan following the actual materials’ requirements and protecting work, beyond simply scheduling mornings.
Drainage and waterproofing
Review water paths, drains, wall junctions and thresholds before finishing. Mark known ponding areas and when it occurs. Sika’s guidance discusses falls and drainage as part of system design; actual values and details must be project-specific. On a balcony above a room, separately define waterproofing inspection, repairs and responsibility. Decorative coverage does not prove waterproofing integrity or correct a wrong fall. Resolve ponding before approving door/drain levels.
Walking suitability
Request relevant slip-resistance evidence for the proposed final layers and texture in the intended wet or dry conditions, especially washing areas and steps. Do not infer it from sheen. Review comfort, care and stair-edge details.
Before approval
Record each area and use, vehicles/heavy furniture, outdoor system and protection, approved sample and texture, waterproofing/falls/drain repairs, weather-dependent programme, protection, return to use and maintenance. Send Almusaileem photos, Kuwait area, approximate size, drains and thresholds. Manufacturer references explain specifications and do not identify the products for your project.
